The Importance of Ethnic Diversity
By now, at least 20% of the Jewish population is racially and ethnically diverse, and yet discrimination and hatred is still alive in the hearts of an ignorant few. According to a recent study, over 7% of the 6 million Jews living in America, or about 435,000 individuals, declare themselves as African American, Asian, Hispanic, or mixed-race. As a voice of the local Jewish community in interfaith circles, Zev Brenner, the famous New York radio-host advocates understanding and harmony among diverse groups. In the Jewish community, racial and ethnic diversity is important for a number of different reasons. Encouraging diversity within the Jewish community is one way to address the anti-Semitism treat, which has been rising in the United States, Europe, and especially in the Muslim world. Increasing the numbers of racially and ethnically diverse Jews can help to bridge the gaps with other racial and ethnic groups.
